  • Have compassion for whatever reason you are having the uterus removed- painful fibroids, crazy amounts of bleeding, or cancer. In any of these cases, your daily life is affected and you can’t be entirely yourself.

  • Have compassion for having the uterus removed at all. Because this is THE organ that grows babies, having it makes a lot of women feel like a woman and it is a difficult emotional process having it removed.

  • Have a plan for returning to your normal sexual life after surgery.

  • Take the surgery healing supplement Percuro before and after surgery to prepare your body for healing inside and out.

  • Have an electrolyte drink (clear with zero sediment or particles) the morning of surgery, completed 2 hours prior to check-in at the surgery center.

  • Light food the day before, day of, and day after surgery.

  • Drink a bottle of magnesium citrate for a light “clean out” of your colon the afternoon before surgery. This will help with any constipation afterwards from prescription pain medicine.

  • Ice the incisions on the abdomen and ice the perineum where the uterus was brought out through the vagina. Can sit on ice between the legs, just protect the skin of the legs.

  • Take Miralax 1-2 times daily after surgery if using the prescription narcotic pain medication. This will help avoid constipation that the pain medicines cause. The last thing you want or need after this operation is constipation!!!

  • Take short walks daily.

  • Arrange an after-surgery massage of the hips, legs, and lower back for discomfort from positioning during surgery.

  • Arrange an after-surgery massage for the neck, shoulders, and arms for discomfort from head and arm positioning during surgery.

  • ***If having a radical hysterectomy with removal of lymph nodes, be sure to have lymph massages arranged as well as speak with a physical therapist ahead of time to learn how to perform lymph massages yourself.
